Making More Meaningful Meetings | CLD Corner with Jason Pugh
One big question I have received since the online transition has been “How can I make my meetings more purposeful?”
One big question I have received since the online transition has been “How can I make my meetings more purposeful?” I get statements like “I can’t get my team to engage” and “I can’t seem to demonstrate meaning behind the meeting.” I would be happy to help! There are two strategies I use to better engage participants in my meetings: IEEI and The 6 P’s.
What if I told you that there are seven characteristics that the strongest critical thinkers possess?
IEEI FOR BETTER PARTICIPANT ENGAGEMENT
No. Not EIEIO, Old McDonald. Michael Wilkinson, a leader in the industry for nearly 25 years, utilizes IEEI, which focuses on four concepts that must be included in all discussions.
IEEI stands for:
• Inform – Provide the purpose of why the discussion and initiative is relevant
• Excite – Describe how this initiative benefits the participants’ final outcomes
• Empower – Ask them for what you are looking for – Recommendations? Brainstorming ideas? Decision? Root Cause Analysis?
• Invite – Pose a question that engages the participants to act further during and after the meeting
